Central Texas Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital is a 24/7 multi-referral and ER practice, locally owned and operated, caring for pets in the Greater Austin Area for over 20 years! We are stocked, staffed and ready to provide quality care to our patients.
We are seeking a compassionate and out-going individual to fill an Emergency Care Veterinary Technician Assistant Position. This position is available full-time or part-time. Experience in the veterinary field and experience handling animals is preferred but not required.

The Technician Assistant plays an integral role in the advanced veterinary care provided by Central Texas Veterinary Surgery. This role goes hand in hand with our purpose statement of enhancing the quality of life for our patients.
Restrain animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
Assist technicians with animals.
Assist in taking radiographs.
Open rooms to be used for surgery.
Set up surgery rooms and clean them after procedures.
Clean, wrap and sterilize instruments, surgical packs, gowns, and drapes.
Knowledge of names and locations of all instruments and equipment used in surgery.
Scrub in and assist in surgeries as needed.
Perform nail trims.
Feed and walk patients as needed.
Take patients vital signs including temperature, pulse, and respiration.
Perform suture and staple removal.
Prepare prescriptions as ordered by the doctor.
Perform routine laboratory procedures.
Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas.
Perform kennel duties as required.
Perform inventory and restocking duties as required.
Special Position Requirements
Applicants must be able to work evenings, overnights, weekends and holiday shifts.
Overtime may be required.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen; may require extended periods of time on feet. Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel or reach with hands and arms. Required to lift up to forty pounds. Employees will be expected to acquire assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 40 pounds.
Radiation exposure (x-ray, CT Scan)
Possible exposure to gas sterilization using ethylene oxide
Hazards associated with infected animals, controlled substances, and possible exposure to contagious diseases
Exposures to unpleasant odors and noises
Exposure to aggressive patients, bites, scratches and animal wastes
